2 Indian Hemps Dealers Jailed 22 Months Each

A Lagos Federal High Court, has convicted and sentenced two men, Usman Usaini and Abdul Jalal Musa, to 22 months Imprisonment each, for unlawful dealing in 32.1 kilograms of Indian Hemps.

They were given the jail-terms by Justice Akintayo Aluko, after pleaded guilty to the charges made against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The two convicts were brought before the court on different charges.

While Usman was arraigned before the court on two counts charges of unlawful dealing in 20.1 kilograms of the said banned weed, Abdul was arraigned for unlawful dealing in 3.0 kilograms of the same banned weed.

Presenting the charges against the convicts, NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Adebayo Femi, told the court that Usman was arrested on June 17, 2021, at Alaba Motor Park, while Abdul was arrested on May 1, 2021, at at Zango area of Seme, Badagry Lagos state.

He told the court that the offences committed are contrary to and punishable under 19 and 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

Following the convicts’ plead of guilty, NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Adebayo, urged the court to sentence them accordingly.

However, the convicts’ counsel, Prosper Oke Ojakovo, urged the court to tamper justice with mercy, adding that the convicts are first time offenders and that they have became remorseful since they were arrested and promised not to get involved in any form of criminalities.

Upon the counsel’s submissions, Justice Aluko sentenced the two convicts to 22 years Imprisonment each. While ordered that the seized Indian Hemps be destroyed if there is no appeal against the judgment within the stipulates period.
