2 Men Allegedly Smuggle 20.8kg of Cocaine Into Nigeria

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today, brought two men, Azubuike Jeremiah Emeka and Okeke Uchenna Aloy Pascal, before a Lagos Federal High Court, for allegedly smuggled 20.8 kilograms of Cocaine into the country.

The two men allegedly  committed the act on January 6 and 8, this year.
They were brought before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on a separate charge of count one each, by the men of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Arraigning the two drug smugglers today, NDLEA counsel, Mr. Augustine Nwagu, told the court that they were apprehended during during an inward clearance of Ethiopian Airline flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa at ‘E’ Arrival Hail of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, lkeja, Lagos.

Nwagu told the court that Azubuike was arrested with 7.8 kilograms of the banned substance, while Okeke was arrested with 13 kilograms of same.

Nwagu told the court that the offence committed by the defendants is contrary to and punishable under Section 11(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. 

The two defendants separately, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
Following their not guilty plea, the prosecutor, Nwagu, asked the court for a trial date, while equally urged the court to remand them in the facility of Nigerian Correctional Services (NCos).

Their counsel, Chief Benson Ndakara, while not objecting to the trial date ad requested by the prosecutor, he however asked the court for a short date to enable him file Azubuike’s bail application.

Chief Ndakara told the court that he had filed and served Okeke’s bail application on the prosecution and urged the court to entertain same.

Upon listened to submissions of counsel on the bail application, Justice Aneke adjourned till February 8, for ruling on the Bail application, while adjourned till April 13, for trial.

The judge ordered that the two defendants be remanded in the custody of NCoS, till the hearing and determination of their bail application.
