2 Yahoo Boys Jailed 7 Months For N800k Fraud

Justice Sherifat Solebo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court, today, Convict and sentenced two internet fraudsters to a total of seven months imprisonment for N800,000 internet fraud. 

The convicts, Oyelami Olatunji and Osho Kazeem were however given an option of fine in a total sum of N250,000 in lieu of imprisonment.

Items found on the convicts which the court ordered to be forfeited to the federal government included one iPhone Xmas, one Nokia phone, one HP  Laptop and one iPhone. 

The convicts were re-arraigned before the court on an amended one count charge bordering on cheating and possession of fraudulent documents respectively by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a plea bargain agreement.

They pleaded guilty to the charge. 

Giving the facts of the case,  EFCC prosecutor, Franklin Ofoma told the court that the convicts were arrested in different parts of Lagos following intelligence report. 

Ofoma said Olatunji was arrested January  21 at Ziroc Jotel, Lekki Phase 1. 

He said when his email was analysed, series of fraudulent documents were found in which he presented himself as a white female with the name,  Hilliard Mark to the unsuspecting victims. 

He said the convict, in his confessional statement, admitted defrauding his victims to the tune of N800,000.

Ofoma said Kazeem on the other hand, was arrested at Eko Atlantic Hotel, Victoria Island October last year with his colleagues “living a life style beyond his means”.

He said in his confessional statement, Kazeem confessed his involvement in internet scams while his email contained fraudulent documents. 

The EFCC prosecutor urged the court to convict them and sentence them accordingly.

In their allocutus, Olatunji and Kareem pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy and that they have become remorseful and learnt from their mistakes. 

In her judgment,  Justice Solebo sentenced Olatunji to six months imprisonment with an option of fine in the sum of N200,000.

Justice Solebo also sentenced Kazeem to one month imprisonment with an option of fine in the sum of N50,000.
