29 Years Old Woman Arraigned For Trafficking Lady To Dubai For Prostitution

A 29 year-old, Chindere Oluchi Winifred Nwabugwu, was today, Arraigned before a Lagos Federal High Court, for trafficking a young lady to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, for prostitution.


Chidera who also bears Chidera John, a resident of 111, F Close, Festac Town, Lagos, and Sir Murphy’s Compound, Umuezeawala, Ihiala, Anambra state, was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke led-court, on a three count charge of Conspiracy,  promoting prostitution, trafficking in person by Prosecuting Agency, National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffiking In Person (NAPTIP).

Arraigning the defendant in a charge marked FHC/L/143c/2022, NAPTIP prosecutor, Beckie jibo, told the court that the defendant and the dou of Bella and Chinyere, both now at large, on March 14, 2016, conspired among themselves and organized foreign travel Nigeria to Dubai, United Arab Emirate, for one Jennifer Simon, which promoted prostitution.

The prosecutor also the defendant and others at large, exported the said Jennifer Simon to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the purpose of forcing or inducing her into prostitution.

The offences according to the  (NAPTIP) are contrary to 18, 14(b) and 27(a) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement And Administration Act, 2015, and Punishable under the same section 18 of the Act. 

The defendant denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following the defendant’s plea of not guilty, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date. She also asked the court to remand in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) till the determination of the charges against her.

But the defendant’s Counsel, E. B. Okoye, asked the court for a short date to enable him bring his client’s bail appllication before the court.
Justice Aneke while adjourning the defendant’s trial till December 13, ordered that she be remanded at the Kirikiri facility of the NCoS.

The judge however, said that the defendant’s counsel can approach the court anything his client’s bail application is filed.
