Court Convicts Expectant Father For Trafficking In Marijuana

A Federal High Court Lagos, has convicted and sentenced an expectant Father, Eze Chibueze Paul, to imprisonment of 12 calendar months, for unlawful dealing in 131grams of Cannabis Sativa popularly called marijuana.

The presiding judge, Justice chukwujekwu Aneke, convicted and sentenced the expectant father, after he pleaded guilty to a count charge made against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

But the judge, due to the compassionate plea for leniency made by the convict’s lawyer, Bolanle Kolawole, ordered him to pay the sum of N200, 000.00 and to perform 100 hours community service, in lieu of the jail-term.

The convicted man, according to the prosecutor, Adekemisola A. Owoyomi, was arrested with the band substance on September 24, 2025, at 2025 at Prime Water Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

Owoyomi told the court that the convict’s action was contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation 2004. 

The convict admitted committing the crime, hence he quickly pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Based on his guilty plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the charge and tendered exhibits in the matter. While also urged the court to convict and sentence him according to the section of NDLEA Act, he was charged with.

But his lawyer, Barrister Kolawole, passionately pleaded with the court to consider her client’s timely guilty plea as a sign of remorse and for not wasting the time of the court.

Kolawole, also begged the court to award a fine option and community service in lieu of the custodian sentence.

Charge against the expectant father reads: “that you Eze Chibueze Paul, Male, Adult on the 24th of September, 2025 at Prime Water Estate Lekki, Lagos State, within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority dealt in 131grams of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic drug similar to cocaine, heroin, LSD and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation 2004.”
