The trial of a former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly,
Trial of former Lagos speaker, Adeyemi Sabit Ikuforiji, and his Personal Assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, over alleged laundering of the sum of N338.8 million, which started about 13 years ago, came to an end today, as they were acquitted and discharged by a Lagos Federal High Court of 54 counts charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Mohammed Liman who presided over the court, freed the two men of the allegations, while delivering judgment on the charges against them.
In acquitting and discharging the two men, Justice Liman, after analyzing arguments canvassed by both the prosecution and defence team in their written addresses, held that the prosecution failed to prove the ingredients of the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge consequently acquitted and discharged both Ikuforiji and Oyebode of all the 54 counts charges.
The trial of a former speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on money laundering charges was on Monday, stalled at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The trial judge, Mohammed Liman, did not sit on Monday, following a letter by a defence counsel seeking an adjournment of the case to a more convenient date.
