Driver Remanded Over Alleged Vandalisation of Railway Track Slippers 

A cab driver, Adeniji Richard, has been remanded in the custody of Nigerians Correctional Services (NCoS) by a Lagos Federal High Court, for allegedly vandalised railway track slippers, worth N10 million.

The court presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, made the remand order, sequel to the request made the prosecutor, Mrs. Kehinde Bode-Ayeni, after the driver had pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge slammed on him by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

The driver was brought to court on charges of felony, wilful damage and attempt to steal.

The offence according to the prosecutor are punishable under sections 3 (6), 383, 507, of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section 1(10), and 390 (a) of the same Act.  of the same Act. 

Mrs. Bode-Ayeni had asked the court for the remand order, pending when the defendant’s bail application will be heard and determined.

The 47 years old driver, according the prosecutor was arrested on November 21, 2019, at Bolade-Oshodi railway line, at about 3.27 a.m., with the alleged vandalised railway track slippers.

After his arraignment on the mentioned counts on Thursday, he denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty. 
With his not guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date, while also urged the court to remand him till when his application for bail will be heard and determined.

Counsel to the cab driver, F.D Bakenne-Salami, however pleaded with the court for a short date, to enable her to bring the defendant’s bail application before the court.

However, Justice Awogboro, while adjourned till September 27 and 28, 2021, for the commencement of defendant’s trial, also ordered that the defendant be has ordered the remand in NCoS custody.
