Ecosystem Restoration: NCF Plants Trees in Lagos Schools

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) yesterday, commenced planting of trees in different schools in Lagos to mark this year’s World Environment Day (WED).

The NGO kicked off the tree planting initiative at the Ilasan Senior Secondary School, Lagos.

Speaking on the tree planting exercise, Mrs. Abidemi Idowu, NCF’s Head of Environmental Education Unit, said that the tree planting in schools was part of the projects embarked upon by the Foundation to improve the wellbeing of members of the society, particularly the students.

“NCF is working on some projects to restore the ecosystem, which is the theme of this year’s World Environment Day, and one of the projects is planting of trees in schools.

“This planting of trees will serve as a shield and also food for the students across the schools where the trees will be planted”, she said.

Idowu also said that the tree planting would be beneficial to even those that would attend the school in the future.

She added that the tree planting was aimed at enhancing awareness on the importance of environmental management among students.

According to her, the initiative is about creating awareness on trees to students so that they know the importance, plant trees themselves and nurture them to maturity.

The trees were also planted in other schools like Ikate Primary School and Gbara Community Junior Secondary School, among others.

The tree planting initiative, which was also supported by the Dangote Group, will also be taken to 20 other schools in Lagos.
