Farmer Docked Over Fake N2.5m Fake Naira Notes
An unlettered farmer, Odebija Samson, has been arraigned before a Lagos Federal High Court, for allegedly being in possession of N2, 529 million of fake of one thousand naira denominations.
Samson was arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji led-court, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on 17 counts charge of the crime.
The EFCC through its prosecutor, Mr. S. I. Sulaiman, told the court that the farmer was arrested on November 18, 2019, with the said fake currencies.
Sulaiman, told the court that the farmer was arrested with the fake currencies which has serial numbers W/70032474; W/70032473; W/70032472; W/06044759; P/51913733; P/51913795; P/51913734; P/51913766; P/51913779; P/51913739; P/51913774; P/51743437; P/51714741; D/46539636; P/51913766 and P/51913795.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences committed farmer, contravened Sections 5(1)(b) and 1(2)(b) and punishable under section 5(2)1(2)(a) of the counterfeit currency (special provisions) Act, Cap. 35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The farmer pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Following his not guilty plea, his lawyer, McAnthony Aikeirhalele, through a bail application, asked the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms and condition. The request, was not opposed by the prosecutor.
Consequently, Justice Faji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum. While adjourned till February 3 and 4, 2021, for his trial.
