Father of 2 Jailed For Trafficking 1. 155 Kilograms of Cocaine

Justice Saliu Saidu of a Lagos Federal High Court, today convicted and sentenced, one Okeke Emmanuel Ugochukwu, to three years imprisonment, for unlawful export of 1.155 kilograms of Cocaine.

The convict according to the prosecutor, Mr. Ikchapa Oigoga, was arrested with the banned drug on September 30, 2015, at the Murtala Muhammed international Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, while attempt to smuggle the drug to Italy, while on board of Ethiopian Airways.

The convict, who was first arraigned before the court sometimes in 2015, and pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of unlawful export, however, changed his plea today, at the resumed further hearing of the charge against him.

Upon the convict’s changed of plea, the prosecutor, Mr. Ikchapa, urged the court to convict him as charged and sentence him in views of his new plea and the exhibits tendered before the court.

But his lawyer, Mr. Sunday Ekwoh, in his allocutus, urged the court to tamper justice with mercy, as the convict is a father of two kids, a first time offender and has become remorseful and promised never to engage in crimes.

In his judgment, Justice Saidu said: “in view of the plea of the convict and the exhibits tendered by the prosecution, he is hereby sentence to three years imprisonment.

“His international passport to be forfeited to the Federal government of Nigeria and the drug seized from the convict be destroyed by the NDLEA, if there is no appeal against the judgment”.
