Man Arrested With 633 Grammes Of Cocaine Jailed 3 Years

Justice Akintayo Aluko of a Lagos Federal High Court, today, convicted and sentenced a Cocaine Smuggler, Uba Samuel, to three years imprisonment.

Justice Aluko slammed the drug smuggler with the jail-terms, after he pleaded guilty to a count charge, preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

The Convict was arrested with the drug,  on his arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on April 15, 2022, during clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airline flight.

During his arraignment on Thursday, the prosecutor, Mr. Augustine Nwagu, told the court that the offence commited by the convict, contravened Section 11(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of the Nigeria, 2004.

To prove the charge, Mr. Nwagu, while reviewing the tendered the bulk of the drug recovered from the Convict, his confessional statement, international passport, laboratory test analysis and forensic report, which were admitted as exhibits by the court.

Upon admissibility of the exhibits, the prosecutor urged the court to sentence him accordingly.

The Convict through its counsel, asked the court to tamper justice with mercy, saying that he is a first time offender and promised not to engage in such act.

Justice Aluko after listened to the review of facts and the convict’s plea for mercy, sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment from the day of his arrest.

Justice Aluko however gave the convict option of N400, 000 fine in lieu of the Jail-term.

The charge against the convict reads: “That you Uba Samuel, male, adult on or about the 15th day of April 2022, during the inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airline flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa at E” arrival hall of the Departure Hall of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, without lawful authority imported 633 grammes of Cocaine and there by committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of the Nigeria, 2004.”
