The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said his administration is committed to rebuilding the state. The governor said this during the  16th edition of Executive and Legislative Retreat, held in Victoria Island.

“Let me at this point reiterate that we are resolved and poised to serve the people of Lagos State by providing the necessary social and basic infrastructure to address the needs of all despite the challenges occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic and EndSARS protest”, said the Governor.

He said Lagos was set to turn the swod and commence the construction of the fourth Mainland bridge before the end of this year, adding that it has also achieved a lot in flattening the curve of the second wave of COVID-19, been an epicentre of the virus.

“We have successfully added value to Lagosians through the above-mentioned programmes and we are working steadily towards achieving a Greater Lagos that will be a pride of all. As a government, we need to scale up our activities and work as a team so that we can continue to discharge our responsibilities with the ultimate goal of meeting the yearnings and aspirations of our people.” The governor added that his goals include making Lagos a smart city.

The programme, organised by the Office of Civic Engagement, is themed “A Consensus Agenda For Rebuilding Lagos”.

In her address, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Office of Civic Engagement, Aderemi Adebowale stated that the 16th edition of the Executive and Legislative Parley, was aimed among others at reaching consensus on issues germane to the growth and development of Lagos.

“This 16th parley is aimed at ensuring consensus of all stakeholders on issues that are germane to the development of our dear State and second one under this administration. It will be recalled that the parley held last year was rewarding as it enabled participants to share experiences, availed the government a reliable feedback on projects and programmes and at the same chart a way forward for the development of the State”, Adebowale stated.

She thanked the Executive, Legislative, the All Progressive Congress Governor’s Advisory Council, for attending the retreat, while called for ‘one minute silence’, for three members which include Late Senator Bayo Oshinowo, Lagos Lawmaker, Late Tunde Buraimoh, a party stalwart, Lanre Razak, who died of COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Presentations which include the efforts of the State government’s efforts in flattening COVID-19, Vaccine strategy, Isolation facilities, were made by the Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi.

The Speaker of the Federal House of Representative, Femi Gbajabiamila, says the legislature will continue to push an agenda for COVID 19 vaccine to get to Lagos.

Gbajabiamila called on everyone to work for a better Lagos in order to take the state to the next level.

He also said the rebuilding and remodeling of the state was a continous process adding that this could be achieved not only through infrastructure development but in social, health and moral values.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, also urged everyone to contribute their quota effectively to the discussion of moving Lagos a greater height while commending Gbajabiala and other Federal legislature for their passion and for representing the state well.

Present at the event were Federal and State Legislatures, which include: Hon. James Faleke, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, party stalwarts, Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, State Executive Council members, the Obas and Chiefs, among other officials.
