Ruling House Protests Nomination of Aregbesola’s ADC As New Oniru

A royal ruling family in Iruland, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Abisogun Oniru Ruling family, has protested and rejected the nomination of Mr. Hakeem Ajasa, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and former Aide-De- Camp to the immediate past governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, as the next Oniru of Iruland.

Abisogun Oniru rejected and opposed the selection of Ajasa, as the next Oniru of Iruland on the ground that he is not from any royal family in Iruland.

The family also  stated that anyone to be the next monarch of Iruland should come from their royal family, Abisogun Oniru.

It would be recalled that a section of Abisogun Ruling House had some days ago tipped Ajasa, as the next Oniru of Iruland.

Abisogun Oniru objection the the nomination of Mr. Ajasa was contained in a letter to the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the Executive Chairman and Secretary to Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA), wherein the family strongly opposed and rejected Ajasa’s nomination, on the ground that he is not from any ruling houses in Iruland.

An acknowledgment copy of the family letter titled: ‘RE: Vacancy In Oniru Chieftaincy Succession To Fill The Vacancy’, dated December 9, 2019, signed by the family head, Alhaji Surajudeen Durosimi Abisogun Oniru (Arole), describing those who that tipped Ajasa as the next Oniru of Iruland, from Abisogun family as an outsiders and strangers.

The letter reads in part; “we the members of the Abisogun Ruling House hereby declare that in accordance to the order of rotation in which the respective Ruling Houses are entitled to provide candidates to fill successive vacancies in the Oniru Chieftaincy, We the Abisogun Ruling house are the one entitled to nominate a candidate for the Oniru Chieftaincy.

“For purposes of clarity, the Abisogun Ruling House consist of only the descendants of Omowumi Abisogun Oniru, the only blood relations to the Oniru of Iruland. The heads and accredited representatives of the Abisogun Ruling House who are authorised to represent the the ruling house are as set out bellow;-Alhaja Afusatu Kabiawu, Alhaji Surajudeen Durosimi and Alhaja Wosilatu Abdul Azeez Fatosha”.

The Family Demands: “the Abisogun Ruling House hereby claim as follows:- that it is our turn and entitlement to nominate a candidate to fill the vacancy in Oniru Chieftaincy created by the demise of late Oba Idowu Abiodun.

“That Abisogun Ruling House is entitle to the legal and equitable rights to nominate a candidate of their choice to fill the vacancy in Oniru chieftaincy/stool of Lagos without the interference of the likes of Adesegun Abiodun Oniru; Tijani Abiodun Oniru; Hakeem Ajasa; Ademola Abiodun Oniru, Chief Bikiaminu Sannj Abisogun and Mr. Rashidi Sanni Abisogun”.

The family lamented that while the were patiently waiting for the Secretary to the LCDA, announced to them to produce their nomination, those listed above had allegedly manoeuvred and manipulated the system and presented Hakeem Ajasa to the council as the member of their family.

“Unfortunately, while the genuine Abisogun Ruling House are patiently waiting for the Secretary to Iru/Victoria Island LCDA to announce to Abisogun Ruling House to produce our nomination, the above named persons began to manoeuvre and manipulate by holding secret meetings, inducing and corrupting the mind of some seemingly gullible individuals while illegally holding themselves, as if authorised by our Abisogun Ruling House went ahead to raise up the hand of one of their cronies Hakeem Ajasa, purporting to nominate him as if they are members of our family”, the family lamented.

Protest by the family: “The Abisogun Ruling House hereby condemns the acts of nominating Hakeem Adisa, an outsider to Usurp the heritage and turn of the Abisogun Ruling House of Oniru Chieftaincy. Hakeem Ajasa is never a blood relation of Oniru of Iruland. Himself and the first, second, and fourth persons mentioned above are merely the children and relations of regent chief Late Anomu Yusufu Abiodun Opeseyi, father of Oba Idowu Abiodun descendants of Late Shangbalnla of the Aromire Family palace maiden slave. While the fifth to seventh persons are the strangers invited from Ibeshe village from the family of Sanni Abisogun of Ibeshe village and imposed as head of Abisogun Ruling house”.

Abisogun Oniru Ruling family therefore called on the Council’s Secretary to use his good office and step into the matter to the excesses of those individuals.

“It is expected that your good self could step into this matter using your good offices to stop the excesses of this individuals”, the family leaders stated.
