Court Jails Hard Drug Exporter 5 Years

Justice Ayokunle Faji of a Lagos Federal High Court, has convicted and sentenced a hard Drug Exporter, Alli Chinnedu, to five years Imprisonment, for unlawful export of 1.5 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine and 300 grammes of Cocaine to London, United Kingdom.

The convict was arrested by the operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on November 13, 2020, at NAHCO Export Shed, a Customs Area/Point of the Murtala Muhammed Intemational Airport, at the clearance of Cargoes on DHL flight to London.

Upon his arrest, he was brought before Justice Faji led-court in a charge marked FHC/L/321c/2020, on a two count-charge of Unlawful exportation of the banned substance.

The offences, the prosecutor, Mr. Abu Ibrahim, said contrary to and punishable under Section 11(b) of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. 

The convict had pleaded guilty to the charges when it was read to him on Monday, the development which made the prosecutor to asked for the review of the facts of the crime. 

In reviewing the facts of the crimes, Mr. Ibrahim told the court that the convict was arrested while attempting to export the banned substances to London, United kingdom, through DHL Flight.
 Abu also tendered some documentary evidence, which includes, the Convict’s confessional statements, reports of test laboratory analysis of the banned drug, copies of receipts for the conveying of the drugs, which were all admitted by the court.

Following the admitting of the exhibits which were not objected to by the convict, the prosecutor urged the court to convict and sentence him according to prescribed NDLEA Act.

The convict, however in his plea for mercy, begged the court to tamper Justice with mercy, while vowed not to engage in any form of illicit act.

In his judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Faji, held that: “with the Convict’s plea of guilty coupled with the review of facts and exhibits tendered, the convict, Alli Chinnedu, is hereby sentenced to five years Imprisonment. 

Justice Faji however held that the jail term shall run concurrently, starting from Monday, March 22, 2021
