Court Remands Kunle Poly, 1 Other For Another 30 Days over Idunmota Mayhem

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, today, ordered the remand of Azeez Adekunle Lawal, a.k.a. Kunle Poly and Adekanbi Shonibare Wahab, both members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), in Ikoyi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) for another 30 days, over idunmota mayhem.

The court presided over by Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun, made the remand order while granting a remand application attached with a three count charge of conspiracy, murder and for being members of a secret cult, named Eiye confratanity.

It would be recalled that Chief Magistrate Balogun had on January 27, ordered the remand of Kunle Poly, Adekanbi alongside Prince Idowu Onikoyi Johnson and Agboola Akeem Kosoko, in the facility of the Zone 2, Command, Onikan for 30 days, for Police to conclude investigation on a allegations of threat to life and property, violence, cultism, mayhem, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, unlawful possession of firearms, conspiracy and murder against them.

At the resumed hearing of the matter today, Police Lawyer, Barrister Morufu Animashaun, a legal Officer from the Force Criminal Investigation Department ForceCID (Annex) Alagbon-Ikoyi, told the court that the police had concluded investigation on the allegations

He told the court that upon conclusion of the investigation, Kunle Poly and  Adekanbi Shonibare Wahab, were found culpable of offences bordering on alleged Conspiracy to commit felony to wit murder; unlawful Killing of one Gafar Sanusi and being members of Eye  confraternity.

The offences Animashaun told the court contravened Sections 233;  of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015, and section 3 of the Anti-cultism Laws Lagos State 2021.

Though, their plea was not taken on the alleged offences.

Animashaun asked the court to remand them for 30 days to enable the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) issue a legal advice on the allegations against them.

Efforts by their team of lawyers led by Adeshina Ogunlana, to get them release on bail, were fruitless, as the Chief Magistrate Balogun made an order remanding them at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos State pending advice from the Lagos State DPP.

Chief Magistrate Balogun therefore adjourned the matter till March 28 for mention.

However, the plea of Prince Idowu Onikoyi Johnson and Agboola Akeem Kosoko, were taken on the charges of conspiracy and conduct likely to breach Public peace, made against them by the police.

Though, both Prince Idowu and Agboola, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were admitted to bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum
