Police Charge 2 With Alleged Theft Of N45m Boat Engines

Men of Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, arraigned a man, Audu Kingsley and a woman, Sheila Bazuaye, before a Tinubu Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing two boat engines, valued N15 million.

The two defendants were arraigned alongside a limited liability company,   Haggadol Marine Nigeria Limited, before Chief Magistrate Adedaramola Paul led-court on a five count-charge of conspiracy, obtained by false pretence, stealing, pervert cause of Justice and wilful damage.

The offences according to the prosecutor, Mr. Tijjani Williams, are contrary to and punishable under sections 411, 314, 287, 97 and 91 of the the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

At the defendants’ arraignment today, the prosecutor, Mr. Tijjani, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in April, 2020, in Lagos.

He told the court that the defendants fraudulently obtained the two boat engines named 450 (Horse Power) with false pretence that it shall be returned to the owner, one Don Andrew Efe Stakpere,  within two weeks.

Th prosecutor further informed the court that the defendants conspires among themselves to obstruct, prevent or pervert or defeat the curse of justice. Adding that they also willfully removes, concealed, destroy or renders it illegible or difficult to read all evidence on their phone intent to prevent from being use in evidence against them.

Upon reading the charges to the defendants, the prosecutor urged the court to remand them in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Services (NCOS), till the determination of the charges.

However, defendants denied the allegations and asked the court to admit them to bail in the most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Paul, after listened to the prosecutor’s submission and the defendants’ plea for bail, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000, with one surety each with a means of identification, three years tax payable to the Lagos State government.

The Magistrate while adjourning that matter till June 2, for mention, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the custody of NCoS, pending the perfection of the bail terms.
