Mr. Ola Oresanya, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment,
Sallah: Ogun Govt. Warns Against Converting Land Spaces Into Rams, Livestocks Markets
Ahead of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Ogun State government has warned traders against converting land spaces in the state to emergency ram and livestock markets.
The warning according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, became necessary because the emergency markets are not only illegal but are operated under unhealthy and filthy environment, which debase the aesthetic beauty of their surroundings and contravenes the Ogun State Environmental Laws.
“The traders in these markets aside from operating illegally, deface the land spaces with wastes and animal droppings while those of them that trades in livestock especially chickens and turkeys litter the spaces with blood cloth and other foul smelling wastes which will contaminate the environment and spread diseases”.
Mr. Oresanya added that some of these emergency markets are also operated on roadsides which results in unnecessary gridlocks to commuters and at the same time expose the traders and their customers to avoidable vehicular mishaps which may result in loss of lives.
He therefore warned those planning to operate such emergency markets during this Sallah celebration to have a rethink and move their trading activities to established and legalized markets or face the consequences as the Sanitation and Health officers will be on duty across the state during the Sallah celebration to enforce the new order and prosecute offenders.
